It Takes Two experience

January 2, 2025 - Reading time: 2 minutes

I finished It Takes Two a couple of days back. I've been eyeing this game since it came out and I'm glad I got the chance to play it! It took about 15 hours to complete. I went in barely knowing anything about the game and enjoyed all the surprises it had in store. My unorganized thoughts about the game:

  • The level designs and game mechanics were really creative
  • The game never got predictable, there was so much variety in the gameplay
  • Notable moments:
    • Being in disbelieve that the game became a space shooter during one part, mixed with Mortal Kombat
    • One boss felt like playing Touhou, being in midst of a bullet hell
    • Trying not to die at the same time. Whenever one of us was reviving, we'd plead to the other person to please not die while smashing the triangle button as fast as possible
    • We avoided PvP, no fighting against each other!
    • Some of the levels were trippy AF
    • Being shocked by how awful and brutal the main characters were while they committed plushie murder
    • In the garden level, it really looked like one of the characters was just peeing everywhere
    • Really cool the way sound design and gameplay intertwined in the last level
    • Delighted by references to many other games. For example, Rainbow Road from Mario Kart
